It’s only mid-January and yet your New Year’s Resolutions may have already begun to fade. It’s time to get back on track. Don’t get caught up reflecting on 2016 as either a good or bad year because either way, it doesn’t matter!
Learn from the past to shape the future
What matters is what you take from 2016 that will positively influence 2017. Sometimes resetting is hard because the previous year was so tough. It can become easy to dwell or revel in the past, but there’s nothing to gain unless you apply new insights.
During my annual review sessions with clients we dedicate less than an hour (in a 2-day offsite) to evaluate the past year. Most of this time is dedicated to identifying new insights for the upcoming year. Anything else is just a waste of time.
You’re in the Driver’s Seat…so Drive!
The concept of “reset” is a powerful one because it represents the opportunity to start fresh. It’s a mulligan for your business. No baggage, just an opportunity to take what you need and leave the rest behind.
Progress can be hard to see
One of my clients recently looked back to reflect how difficult the past year was due to some capital draining investments, key people they had to let go, and a big mishap with one of their product lines. Sounds like a huge disaster, right? Not so!
After reviewing the year, they recognized how much they accomplished by their willingness to dive into some BIG issues and move the needle forward. They chose to position themselves for great progress in 2017, with all kinds of opportunity.
What does next year look like for your business? It’s a clean slate, so now is the time to orchestrate your future, starting with 2017.
Carpe Diem. Enjoy the journey!
